The Arizona real estate exam for a salesperson license is two separate Pearson VUE exams: General, with 80 scored questions on national topics, and State, with 60 on Arizona law. You need 75% each, and each exam has its own fee, time limit and score report. Several prep pages we checked in Oct 2026 still describe the old single combined exam; this page follows the February 2026 candidate handbook.

What each exam covers
The State exam's 60 items fall into four groups here, each with its own practice page; the largest is property law and foreclosure at 19 items. The General exam follows Pearson VUE's national salesperson outline, so its areas link to the national portion pages, where each topic is explained once.
Two exams, not one. Since Jan 1, 2026 the State exam has its own outline, fee and score report. A guide that quotes one long combined exam with one score describes the earlier format.
Percent, not scaled. Your score is the share of scored questions you answer correctly, and the bar applies to each exam separately.
No water-law or landlord–tenant area. The 2026 State outline puts water under utility and environmental regulation (area VII) and rentals under property management (area VI). The broker outline still lists water law as an area of its own, so a guide built on it overshoots.
Pass, fail, retake
Results:at the test site; a pass includes the license application link, a fail the diagnostics by area.
Fail one of the two:General and State are booked, paid and scored as separate exams. A retake is booked like a first attempt: wait 24 hours, then book with Pearson VUE (not at the test center); each retake costs the same as the first attempt. One caveat: the handbook does not say in words that a passed exam carries over; its retake page still calls the salesperson exam “a single exam”, so confirm with Pearson VUE when you rebook.
Fail twice: you can book a one-time review of the questions you missed (exam playback).
Time limit:the exam must be passed within 1 year before the license application.
From course to license
The exams sit in the middle of the license path: fingerprint clearance card, 90 hours of school and the school final, both exams, the Arizona contract-writing course, the online application, then a broker who accepts you. The order, the documents and every fee are on how to get licensed and license cost.

How much is it to take the real estate exam in AZ?
$70 General + $60 State as of Oct 2026, paid to Pearson VUE when you book, with a combo price for booking both the same day. The license adds $60 and the fingerprint clearance card $67: the full bill.
Is there a national portion on the Arizona real estate exam?
Yes. The General exam, 80 scored questions, follows Pearson VUE's national salesperson outline: property ownership, valuation, contracts, agency, financing, math and the rest. It is taught on the national portion pages. The State exam is the Arizona part.
Is it difficult to get a real estate license in Arizona?
The bar is public and fixed: 75% correct on each exam (a percent score, not scaled). Before the exams come 90 hours of school, and the license also needs a fingerprint clearance card and the Arizona contract-writing course. On the State exam, Arizona specifics such as the anti-deficiency rule and the Recovery Fund limits decide the score: practice them here.
Can I take the Arizona real estate exam online?
No: Pearson VUE test centers in Arizona only. Booking is online or by phone at least 24 hours ahead, paid when you book; no walk-ins.
